Which PoE/PoE+ Ethernet switches are suitable for use with Prime Series and S250e cameras?

OptiTrack’s Ethernet cameras require PoE (S250e, Prime 13, Prime 13W) or PoE+ (Prime 17W, Prime 41) Gigabit (1000 Mbit/s) Ethernet switches. Standard PoE switches must provide a full 15.4 watts to every port simultaneously, and PoE+ switches must provide a full 30 watts to every port simultaneously.

Make sure that the Ethernet switch provides sufficient power for all of the ports. OptiTrack cameras will function properly only when sufficient power is available to them. Keep this in mind because many PoE and PoE+ switches are designed to only provide sufficient power to a subset of their ports, and then downgrade the remaining ports to 8 or fewer watts.

In order to cope with the volume of camera traffic and accommodate future upgrades, the switch must support Gigabit (1000 Mbit/s) for every port. Connecting multiple PoE switches in a star topology to a non-PoE Gigabit uplink switch is recommended.

Note that PoE MidSpan devices are power injectors and are not switches. Ethernet cameras require switches with full 15.4(PoE) or 30(PoE+) watts of PoE power per-port.
